Star Gazing with the Children!!!

This was an opportunity not only the kids but some of YC's members as well. How many of us are exposed to the world beyond us? =)

The Youth Cares members once again held a charity event on 17th of March 2012 for the month of February and March. The charity was held at Rumah Kebajikan Seri Cahaya. The theme for this event was star gazing and the objective was to expose the children to astronomy.

The event started at 8.30pm. The reason being it starting late was because stars and planets are much more visible to our naked eyes at night. Since, children these days love experiencing and exploring new things, the YC members decided to give these adorable children the chance of a life time.

At 9.00pm the YC members started the event with Mr. Jivagaran briefing the children about star gazing and on how to use the devices in order to see the planets that is far far away from Earth. As he briefed the kids, questions were also asked to the children to test their knowledge, in order to know how much these kids knew about the solar system..

Once the briefing was done, all the kids and the YC members had a chance to look into the telescope to see the planet Mars. But before that, Mr. Veerayan showed a few short clips of the planet Moon, Jupiter and Saturn. It was a great opportunity for the kids and as well as for the YC members. It was about 11.00pm when we started to view the planets. It was really mesmerizing.

STAR GAZING STARTS....

After the star gazing, the children had some light refreshment prepared by the YC members. Before forgetting, the YC members gave some rations for the home. It was almost 12am, it was already very late for the children as they have to wake up at 5am. And so, the YC members cleaned up the place.

Final Charity Service for 2011

On 31st of December 2011, the YC members held their last charity service for the year 2011 at an orphanage called, Pertubuhan Rumah Kebajikan Seri Cahaya Pulau Pinang which is situated in Batu Maung, Penang. We left for the orphanage at around 9.00am. The YC members celebrated New Years with the kids there. Whereby the cut a cake which was baked by one of the YC members. Along with celebrating New Years, we also celebrated one of the child's birthday there. The cake was served when they sang the birthday song. The kids told the YC members that the caked was delicious. Some of them took the cake for a second round whereby there was some children that was fed by our YC member.

Soon after that, the caretaker there had asked the kindergarten kids to go in the house as to do some coloring and writing which was given by the caretakers there except, the primary kids were told to cleaning up the compound and inside the home. After cleaning up, the boys in the home were playing football in the garden, and the YC members had also join the boys to play. " It was fun playing with the them', said one of the boy from the home .
